Marcus Marshall to join Fujitsu Racing GRM for 2011 Endurance Races

Fujitsu Racing GRM has confirmed that Marcus Marshall will join their team for the endurance races this year.

Marcus will join Lee Holdsworth, Michael Caruso and Greg Ritter for the 2011 V8 Supercar Championship endurance season.

Garry Rogers said “Our cars have proven to have the speed capable of winning these events and we need drivers with the necessary skills and mindset to drive as quickly as each other for every lap.

Long gone are the days where you had No.1 and No. 2 drivers. Today you need four No.1’s to give you the best opportunity of victory.

Marcus has not driven V8 Supercars for us before but an analysis of his lap times particularly at Bathurst and the fact that he has covered plenty of racing miles in various categories I see him as a very worthwhile addition for the GRM teams’ opportunity for success.

On my discussion with him he seems to be a level headed person who is well aware of the commitment of each team member to achieve success”.

Greg returns to the team for a 6th season and is looking to improve on his strong results from the past few years (Bathurst 10th in 2010 and 9th in 2009 - A race he may well have won save for the changing weather conditions in the last few laps of the race).

Marcus joins the team for the first time in a V8 Supercar, having driven a Formula Ford for Garry in 2002. Along with this experience Marcus has also previously driven Champcars, Carrera Cup and British Formula 3.

Whilst he had a number of other opportunities for the endurance races Marcus made the decision early that he wanted to join the GRM team.

“I am excited to be joining the team. They are a professional group and have shown excellent car speed particularly in the last few seasons. I feel this is one of the best opportunities that I have had since early in my career to achieve a strong result at the endurance races”.

“With the speed that the cars have shown at Bathurst in previous years it was an easy decision to make. I would like to thank Garry and his sponsor group for the opportunity to join his team”.

Greg and Marcus will both have the opportunity to test with the team at our next test day at Winton on 10 May and will attend all the GRM test days.

The L&H 500 Phillip Island will be held on the September 16-18, followed by the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on the October 6-9
